A head-on collision at Edgemere Boulevard
A driver died after a head-on crash on Hartford Turnpike, also Route 20, at Edgemere Boulevard in Shrewsbury on Monday, October 26, according to a Shrewsbury Police Department press release reported by the Shrewsbury Post and Boston.com.
Police, firefighters and Worcester EMS paramedics were called at about 11:51 a.m. Officers found three vehicles: a westbound car, an eastbound pickup truck towing a trailer, and an oil tanker truck stopped in the eastbound lane, waiting to turn left onto Edgemere Boulevard.
The initial investigation found that the car and the pickup collided head-on, police said. The tanker truck was damaged after that first collision.
The car’s driver was found unresponsive with serious injuries. Officers began lifesaving measures, and the driver was taken to a local hospital, where the driver was later pronounced dead. The driver’s name has not been released.
The investigation
Shrewsbury police, the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council crash reconstruction team and State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office are investigating. Police have not said what caused the collision or whether anyone else was hurt, and no charges have been announced. Larson Law will update this article if officials release more information.
Legal context from Larson Law
This section is the firm’s general explanation of Massachusetts law. It is not a statement about this crash or the people involved.
After a serious crash, the records made in the first days matter. Massachusetts law requires a driver in a crash that injures someone, or causes more than $1,000 in damage, to file a written crash report within five days under G.L. c. 90, § 26. Our explainer on the five-day crash report rule sets out who must file and where.
When a crash causes a death, the law allows a wrongful death claim, brought by the personal representative of the estate. Our guide to the two claims behind a Massachusetts wrongful death explains how it works, and our page on injury claim deadlines lists the time limits.
